From being seen as the holy grail and having us all 'engage' - to being disgraced by what looked like the absence of evidence for its relevance and value, it could be argued that the 'core' and its stability has had its day.

- and yet here I am inviting you to an engaging (pun intended) and evidence-led one-day seminar on the continued relevance of this concept.

I will present you with tools that will fit your current model of thinking and practice and give you great models for assessing and explaining your everyday patient's journey through their management.

Although the transverse abdominis is no longer the star it once was, it is still the 'core' as a more encompassing concept that provides the basis for all human movement and power production.
We will take the historical journey that leads to this conclusion and leave the term 'stability' where it needs to be.

What is the 'inner core'?

Do we need to 'breathe' life back into our patients' backs?

What is the progression of complexity in postural support and movement?

When you know what they can and can't support, it is much easier to prescribe the right remedial and rehabilitative exercises.

Is that the 'outer core'?

The following Monday morning, you will be able to:

  • Assess and explain how the 'core' contributes to the clinical picture.

  • Make more accurate diagnoses and predictions of progress.

  • Understand the relative importance of causes and compensations.

  • Screen asymptomatic patients and athletes and explain why they see you for preventative care.

  • Understand risk factors for injury and potential barriers to sporting performance.

The Sunday of the Core Seminar

This is an addition for this year that provides sensible rationales and progressions for the rehabilitation of this area, essential to everyday practice.

You no doubt know a selection of exercises that address ‘the core’, but what decides when they are appropriate, and what is the next step?

This extra half-day will answer these questions and make you a much more confident rehabilitator, not only for low back pain patients but also for those who want to progress towards athletic ability.

There will be a significant practical element, and you should wear clothing appropriate to being either a prescriber or a patient.

The half-day rehabilitation addition is also available as a separate seminar to practitioners who have previously attended the Core Seminar.
