A short description of the main learning points
Why - and when - you should - look at this module
The Big Idea
This is a companion module to The Supinator
This case study is designed to complement The Supinator, illustrating how the concepts introduced in that course can influence real-world clinical reasoning and patient management.
One patient. One overlooked mechanism. One different outcome.
Understanding a clinical concept is one thing. Applying it to a real patient is another.
This companion module to The Supinator follows the assessment and management of a young gymnast with persistent elbow pain that had failed to respond to conventional treatment, including physiotherapy, injections and surgical opinion. By working through the clinical reasoning step by step, you'll see how recognising an overlooked mechanism of radio-humeral dysfunction led to a successful outcome.
More than simply presenting an interesting case, this module demonstrates how careful assessment, thoughtful clinical reasoning and targeted rehabilitation can reveal solutions that may otherwise remain hidden. It provides a practical example of how the principles introduced in The Supinator can be applied in everyday musculoskeletal practice.
By the end of this course you will be able to
Follow the complete assessment and management of a complex elbow presentation from history through to successful rehabilitation.
Learn how seemingly small examination findings can point towards an alternative explanation for persistent symptoms.
See how assessment findings guided diagnosis, treatment choices and rehabilitation planning throughout the case.
Discover how the concepts introduced in The Supinator translate into practical clinical decision-making.
Build confidence in considering additional mechanisms when patients fail to respond as expected.
Upper Extremity Seminar
Place this mechanism within a broader framework for assessing and managing upper limb dysfunction.
